Biographical Note
NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF SAINT LUCIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Anthony Bryan Severin, the new Permanent Representative of Saint Lucia to the United Nations, today presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan for the second time.
His last posting to the United Nations, from 2003 to 2004, was during Saint Lucia’s presidency of the General Assembly. Before that, Mr. Severin held the rank of Ambassador in the Office of the Prime Minister since 2001, and was twice made Ambassador of Saint Lucia to the Caribbean Community (2001-2003, 2004-2006).
Prior to that, Mr. Severin was Cabinet and Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (1994–2001). He served as Permanent Secretary in Saint Lucia’s Trade, Industry and Tourism Ministry (1989-1992) and the Ministry of Trade and Industry (1992-1994). He also served as Secretary within the ministries concerned with planning, personnel, community development and social affairs (1988-1989).
He served as Economist in the Central Planning Unit of the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Statistics (1981-1984), and then as Chief Economist in Central Planning Units of the Finance Ministry and the Ministry of Planning, Personnel, Establishment and Training (1984-1988).
Before that, he held a succession of positions in the Ministry of Education and Culture (1980-1981), the Local Development Fund (1979-1980), the Worker Participation Project of the Government of Barbados, in association with the University of the West Indies (1978-1979), and Saint Lucia’s Ministry of Education and Culture (1974-1975).
Throughout those appointments, Mr. Severin represented his country, both regionally and internationally, in negotiations and conferences in such fields as development planning, finance, trade policy and tourism promotion. He is a founding member of Saint Lucia’s Folk Research Centre and a supporter of its performing and literary arts.
Mr. Severin was educated at St. Mary’s College in Saint Lucia, the University of the West Indies and the University of Bradford, United Kingdom.
Born on 6 August 1955, he is married with three children.
