NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Emran Bahar, the new Permanent Representative of Brunei Darussalam to the United Nations, today presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
Prior to his current appointment, from 3 May 2004, Mr. Bahar was his country’s Ambassador Extraordinary to Cambodia. Before that, from September 2002, he was Private and Confidential Secretary to the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Beginning his 20-year Government career in January 1986, Mr. Bahar held various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including: Director, Department of Policy Planning; Acting Deputy Director, Multilateral Economic Department; Administrative Officer Special Grade; Assistant Director, Political Affairs Department; and Administrative Officer.
He earned his doctorate in international relations from the Australian National University in Australia. He holds a Master of Arts in international relations from the same university, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in the same subject (with honours) from Keele University, United Kingdom.
Born in Brunei Darussalam on 9 August 1961, Mr. Bahar is married and has two children.
