SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS WARREN SACH OF UNITED KINGDOM

 

AS ASSISTANT SECRETARY-GENERAL, CONTROLLER

 


The Secretary-General today announced the appointment of Warren Sach of the United Kingdom as Assistant Secretary-General, Controller.  He has been serving as Director of the Programme Planning and Budget Division since May 1997. 


Prior to his appointment as Director, Mr. Sach served as Deputy Director of the same Division from January 1996.  Prior to that, Mr. Sach was the Chief of the Salaries and Allowance Division of the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) for seven years.  From May 1979 to October 1988, he served in the Budget Division, first as a Budget Officer and later as Chief of the Data Analysis and Systems Control Unit.


From May 1974, Mr. Sach served first as a Recruitment Officer and later as a Budget Officer at United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) headquarters, Nairobi, Kenya.  He had earlier served as a Junior Professional Officer with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kenya between October 1968 and September 1970.


Mr. Sach was born in Essex, England.  He was educated at UniversityCollege, London, and MagdaleneCollege, Cambridge, where he studied first economics and then development economics, respectively.
