SECURITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE REVISED ITS GUIDELINES
Following intensive efforts by all its members, the Al-Qaida and Taliban Sanctions Committee on 21 December 2005 revised its guidelines for the conduct of its work.
With regard to sections 6 and 8, dealing with listing and delisting procedures, only technical corrections were introduced, since no agreement has been reached so far. Pursuant to paragraph 18 of Security Council resolution 1617 (2005), adopted on 29 July 2005, the Committee will continue its work with respect to these two sections with a view to updating them, as mandated by the Council. States and relevant international and regional organizations will be informed accordingly once the update has been completed.
The Committee trusts that the revised guidelines will serve as a better tool for rationalizing its own work and provide useful guidance to States in their implementation efforts, especially in the light of the requirements of Security Council resolution 1617 (2005).
An official note by the Chairman of the Committee transmitting the revised guidelines to all States and relevant international and regional organizations will follow shortly. The revised guidelines can be found at the Committee’s website: http://www.un.org/Docs/sc/committees/1267Template.htm.
