VIENNA, 23 May (UNIDO) -- Carlos Magariños, Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) addressed today the plenary session of the 14th International Conference on Management of Technology, which started yesterday at the Austria Centre in Vienna.  Tarek Khalil, President of the International Association for Management of Technology (IAMOT), opened the Conference.

This year IAMOT organized the Conference in collaboration with UNIDO under the theme “Productivity Enhancement for Social Advance:  The Role of Management of Technology”.  UNIDO and IAMOT share a history of successful cooperation, due to the fact that UNIDO’s objectives are closely linked with IAMOT’s goal of promoting management of technology at a global level.

Among the internationally recognized keynote speakers to address the conference are:  Inhi Cho Suh of the IBM Corporation; Kevin Osburn of Siemens Building Technologies; Andre Isaacs, University of California, Berkeley; and Paula Tiihonen, Committee for the Future, Parliament of Finland.

Over 470 papers will be presented, organized in 20 tracks.  UNIDO staff will be presenting papers under track 20, which tackles Productivity Enhancement in Developing Countries.

IAMOT is the largest professional organization dedicated to capacity-building, research and application of technology management.  The IAMOT Conference is one of the largest international gatherings of experts in the field and its attendees include government officials and policymakers, managers of well-known corporations and international organizations, engineers, researchers and educators.

The Conference -- which ends on 26 May -- is an opportunity to share knowledge in the emerging field of technology management with participants from developing countries.  The field is concerned with the integration of technology and business strategies for wealth and employment creation, enhancing competitiveness and improving quality of life.
