EXHIBIT COMMEMORATING 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF BIRTH OF DAG HAMMARSKJÖLD
ON DISPLAY AT UN HEADQUARTERS, 22 – 31 OCTOBER
In observance of United Nations Day, the “Peace in Mind” exhibit is being mounted off the Main Gallery of the General Assembly Visitors’ Lobby. The travelling exhibition commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dag Hammarskjöld and draws attention to his achievements as United Nations Secretary-General from 1953 to 1961.
Dag Hammarskjöld said that the work for peace must begin within the private world of each one of us, that we have to understand our own place on earth before we can reach global understanding. This exhibition is an homage to Hammarskjöld’s work for peace, highlighting the connection between his actions in office and his private sphere beyond the spotlight of the United Nations.
“Peace in Mind” is produced by the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation, in close collaboration with the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Swedish Institute. It will be on display from 22 to 31 October.
