DECOLONIZATION COMMITTEE STARTS SECOND PHASE OF SPECIAL MISSION

 

TO BERMUDA, 31 MAY - 4 JUNE

 

The special mission of the decolonization Committee, led by its Chairman, Ambassador Julian R. Hunte of Saint Lucia, will pay a second visit to Bermuda from 31 May to 4 June 2005.  The mission will participate in the activities organized by the Bermuda Independence Commission and gather information relating to the self-determination process in this Territory.  The decolonization Committee will report to the General Assembly on the mission’s findings.

Bermuda is a Non-Self-Governing Territory under the administration of the United Kingdom.  As administering Power, the United Kingdom is in charge of Bermuda’s foreign affairs and as such, has approved the invitation extended to the Special Committee on decolonization by the Government of Bermuda at the behest of the Bermuda Independence Commission.

In addition to the Ambassador of Saint Lucia, the delegation of the Special Committee includes the representatives of Bolivia, Congo, Dominica, Papua New Guinea and Timor-Leste, accompanied by two experts and two staff members of the Secretariat.
