NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF SWAZILAND PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Phesheya Mbongeni Dlamini, the new Permanent Representative of Swaziland to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.


Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Dlamini served as his country’s Attorney-General in the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Development from 1999 until the present.  From 2003 to 2005, he was also Chairman of the Legal Group of the Eastern and Southern African Anti-Money Laundering Group.


From 1994 until 1999, he worked at Millin & Currie Attorneys, Swaziland, as a Clerk and an Attorney, where he became a partner in 1998.  In 1993 and 1994, he served as Crown Prosecutor in his country’s Ministry of Justice.  In 1993, he was Counsellor at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa.


Mr. Dlamini is also a member of the Constitutional Review Commission and the Constitutional Drafting Committee in Swaziland.  An ex-officio Member of Parliament and an ex-officio member of the Council of the University of Swaziland, he is also Director of the Swaziland Development and Savings Bank and of Swaziland Liquor Distribution.


In 1990, Mr. Dlamini received a Bachelor of Arts degree in law from the University of Swaziland, and in 1993 a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa.  He obtained his Masters of Laws in 2005 from the University of Swaziland.  In 2000, he acquired a Certificate in Legislative Drafting from the University of London, United Kingdom, as well as a Certificate of Incorporate Government and a Certificate in Executive Leadership from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., Unites States.


Born in Lobamba, Swaziland, on 1 January 1966, Mr. Dlamini is married with four children.
