NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF LESOTHO PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Lebohang Fine Maema, the new Permanent Representative of Lesotho to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.


Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Maema served as his country’s Attorney-General, a position he held since 1993.  He was Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Justice and Prisons from 1990 to 1993. 


Mr. Maema also served the King of Lesotho at the Royal Palace, as Private Secretary (1989-1990) and Deputy Private Secretary (1987-1989). 


From 1984 to 1987, Mr. Maema was Lecturer-in-Law at the National University of Lesotho, Roma.  He was also Crown Counsel in the Attorney-General’s Chambers from 1982 to 1983.


Mr. Maema, a Cambridge Livingstone Scholar, has also held positions with the Central Bank of Lesotho, the Matlama Football Club, and the National University of Lesotho.


Born on 22 July 1957, Mr. Maema has a Master of Laws from Cambridge University, United Kingdom, and a Bachelor of Laws from the National University of Lesotho.
