NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF CROATIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

The new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Croatia, Mirjana Mladineo, presented her credentials to United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan today.
Ms. Mladineo has some 30 years of diplomatic and government service. Most recently -- from September 2003 to the present -- she served as Head of the Croatian Mission to the European Union. From 2000 to 2003, Ms. Mladineo served as Croatia’s Deputy Minister for European Integration, and from 1999 to 2000, she was her country’s Head of the Office for European Integration.
Between 1997 and 1999, Ms. Mladineo was Croatia’s National Coordinator for the Central European Initiative and prior to that -- from 1992 to 1997 -- she was the Minister Counsellor at Croatia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
Ms. Mladineo served as Counsellor and Personal Secretary to the Chief of Staff for the Republic of Croatia’s Office of the President from 1991 to 1992.In 1984, Ms. Mladineo was named Head of Department, Assistant Director, at the Republic Administration for Scientific and Technical International Cooperation, a post she held until 1991. From 1977 to 1984, she served as Counsellor to the Republic Committee for Education, Culture, Technical Culture and Sports. Throughout her career, she has been a member of Croatian delegations at numerous international multilateral events and bilateral negotiations.
Ms. Mladineo holds an advanced degree in English, Russian languages and culture from the Philosophy Faculty of the University of Zagreb, and she has taken a number of specialized courses in international relations and European integration.
Born on 15 February 1946 in Zagreb, Ms. Mladineo is married and has one daughter.
