NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF HUNGARY PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Gábor Bródi, the new Permanent Representative of Hungary, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan today.

Prior to his new appointment, Mr. Bródi served as Deputy State Secretary in charge of Hungary’s Directorate for Multilateral Diplomacy.  Before that, in 2001-2002, he was Head of Policy Section in the NATO-WEU Department, and from 1997 to 2001, he was Head of the Hungarian Mission to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna, holding the rank of Ambassador.  Simultaneously, from 1999 to 2001, he represented his country on the NATO High-Level Task Force on Conventional Arms Control (HLTF).

Mr. Bródi started his diplomatic career in 1987 as a Desk Officer at the Euro-Atlantic Territorial Department.  The same year, he was sent as Deputy Head of Mission to the Hungarian Embassy in London, where he stayed until 1991.  From 1994 to 1996, he served as Chef de Cabinet of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mr. Bródi holds a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from Budapest University of Economics (1976) and a Master of Arts in Political Science from EotvosLorandUniversity in Budapest (1980).  He is an author of several foreign-policy-related publications and co-author of several textbooks.

Born on 8 May 1953 in Vertes, Hungary, Mr. Bródi is married, with one son.
