SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS HOCINE MEDILI OF ALGERIA
AS PRINCIPAL DEPUTY SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE IN HAITI
The Secretary-General has announced the appointment of Hocine Medili of Algeria as Principal Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).
Mr. Medili has recently led a multidisciplinary assessment mission to Haiti. He has vast experience in peacekeeping. From 1994 to 2002, he was the Director for Field Administration and Logistics at the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations. From March to December 2000, he assumed, on an interim basis, the functions of Assistant Secretary-General for Planning and Support.
From early 1992 to late 1993, Mr. Medili was the Director of Administration at the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC). He served in the same capacity (1989-1990) with the United Nations Transition Assistance Group in Namibia (UNTAG). Earlier in his career, Mr. Medili served at the Department of Human Resources Management of the United Nations Secretariat, where he started his career in 1972.
Mr. Medili was born on 6 November 1941.
