IN PRESIDENTIAL STATEMENT, SECURITY COUNCIL CONFIRMS CURRENT ARRANGEMENTS
OF COUNTER-TERRORISM COMMITTEE BUREAU UNTIL 4 OCTOBER
Further to its consideration of threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts, the Security Council this afternoon confirmed the continuation of the current arrangements for the Bureau of the Counter-Terrorism Committee for another six months, until 4 October.
In a statement read out by the Council President for the month, Jean-Marc de la Sablière (France) (document S/2004/PRST/8), the Council reaffirmed its resolution 1373 (2001), by which it authorized the Committee’s establishment and recalled the statement of the President of 16 October 2003, which had confirmed the continuation of the arrangements for the Bureau for another six months until 4 April 2004.
(Membership of the Bureau is as follows: Inocencio F. Arias (Spain), Chairman; and the delegations of Angola, Brazil, and the Russian Federation, as Vice-Chairmen).
The meeting began at 12:47 p.m. and was adjourned at 12:49 p.m.
Presidential Statement
Following is the text of today’s presidential statement (document S/2004/PRST/8):
“The Security Council recalls the statement of its President of 16 October 2003 (S/PRST/2003/17), which confirmed the continuation of the current arrangements for the Bureau of the Committee established pursuant to resolution 1373 (2001) concerning counter-terrorism for another six months (i.e., until 4 April 2004).
“Having elapsed the said six months, the Security Council confirms the continuation of the current arrangements for the Bureau of the Committee for another six months, until 4 October 2004.”
