REPUBLIC OF KOREA TO HOST MEETING ON DISARMAMENT,
NON-PROLIFERATION ISSUES FROM 6-8 DECEMBER
NEW YORK, 1 December (Department for Disarmament Affairs) -- The Department for Disarmament Affairs, through its Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific, will convene a meeting on “How to address challenges in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation today” in JejuIsland, Republic of Korea, from 6 to 8 December 2004. This is the third annual regional disarmament meeting organized jointly by the Centre and the Government of the Republic of Korea.
The meeting will deal with the recent trends in weapons of mass destruction and their challenges to security, prospects and challenges of the 2005 NPT Review Conference, non-proliferation challenges in North-East Asia and non-proliferation of missiles.
Approximately 20 representatives from governments, academic and research institutes, as well as non-governmental organizations, mainly from Asia and the Pacific region, and international organizations will participate in their personal capacity.
