Biographical Note

 

NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MONACO PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Gille Noghes, the new Permanent Representative of Monaco to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

 

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Noghes served as Ambassador of Monaco to Switzerland and Lichtenstein, and as Permanent Representative of Monaco to the United Nations Office in Geneva in 2003.  In 1999, he became President of an intergovernmental organization, the International Office of Exhibitions, where he also served as President of its Executive Committee.  Among his duties there, he directed or participated in missions reviewing applications for international exhibitions in Australia, Canada, China, Republic of Korea, France, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, Poland, and Russia.

 

In 1993, Mr. Noghes was Minister-Counsellor at Monaco’s Embassy to France, Monaco’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and a member of the Latin Union.  Prior to that, he served in Monaco’s civil service for several years, becoming Director of Tourism and Conferences in 1987, following posts as Assistant Manager of Tourism and Conferences, First Secretary of Monaco’s Embassy to Germany, and Secretary to the Manager of Tourism and Conferences.  From 1972 to 1979, he worked as a naval construction engineer in the private sector.

 

Born in Monaco in 1947, Mr. Noghes is married with one child.  Holder of the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit (Germany) and Officer of the Order of Saint Charles (Monaco), he speaks French, English, German, and Italian.
