OPEN DISCUSSION ON INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM AND WORLD GOVERNANCE

VIENNA, 3 February (UN Information Service) -- The issue of terrorism prevention strategies will be discussed by a group of experts during an upcoming meeting to be held in Turin.
The International Open Discussion on International Terrorism and World Governance is being organized by the UN Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) in cooperation with EUROPOL, and will take place on 7 February 2003 at the University of Turin, Italy (Aula Magna Storica, Via Verdi 8, at
9 a.m.).
The event foresees the participation of a number of distinguished high-level officials and international experts from EUROPOL, United Nations Office of Legal Affairs (New York), Terrorism Prevention Branch of the Vienna-based United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, SudaneseMinistry of Foreign Affairs, International Policy Institute for Counter Terrorism at the Interdisciplinary Centre Herzliya (Israel), Italy’s Permanent Mission in Vienna, Italian Foreign Affairs, Justice and Interior Ministries, Crime and Policing Group (Home Office, United Kingdom Government), Max-Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law (Germany); KFOR -- NATO (Kosovo), Centre for Studies on New Religions (CESNUR, Turin), Centre to counter terrorism and political violence (CEAS, Rome), University of Virginia, University of Turin, and Italian journalists (La Repubblica, Il Messaggero and Limes -- Italian Geopolitical Review).
The conference is part of the UNICRI’s initiatives on “International Terrorism Prevention” funded by Compagnia di San Paolo, banking Foundation.
