SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS ANDREW TOH OF SINGAPORE AS ASSISTANT
SECRETARY-GENERAL FOR CENTRAL SUPPORT SERVICES
The Secretary-General today announced the appointment of Andrew Toh of Singapore as Assistant Secretary-General for Central Support Services, succeeding Toshiyuki Niwa.
Mr. Toh has been serving since 2000 as Director, Facilities and Commercial Services Division. He is also Officer-in-Charge of the Office of Central Support Services.
Mr. Toh joined the World Food Programme (WFP) in Rome, Italy, in 1980. He served with the WFP for 19 years, holding diverse appointments as Chief of Logistics, Head of the WFP’s Task Force for Afghanistan, and the WFP Country Director for Angola and Namibia, before completing his tenure as Director of Management Services. During his service at the WFP, Mr. Toh accumulated extensive experience in planning and directing field logistics operations in emergency operations in developing and least developed countries. Mr. Toh directed the relocation and reconstruction of the present WFP headquarters in Rome
Mr. Toh joined the United Nations Secretariat in 1999 as Chief of the Procurement Division where he was credited with the successful re-structuring of the Secretariat’s Procurement Division within General Assembly’s Procurement Reform initiative. In 2001, Mr. Toh was assigned as Director, Facilities and Commercial Services Division within the Office for Central Support Services. In this capacity, he had managerial responsibility over the Facilities Management Division, the Procurement Division, the Commercial Activities Service, and the Travel and Transport Service.
Prior to joining the United Nations, Mr. Toh managed a number of private enterprises in Singapore engaged in transportation, port operations and insurance businesses. An Honours graduate from the University of Singapore, Mr. Toh is married with three children.
