ROTARY INTERNATIONAL DAY AT UNITED NATIONS -- 4 OCTOBER
Over 800 Members of Rotary International representing 22 States in the United States and more than 30 countries around the world will meet at United Nations Headquarters on Saturday, 4 October, to hold a variety of briefings on topics such as: “Racing to save the Last Child from Polio”, “Overcoming HIV/AIDS”, “Environment and Poverty”, “Population: 2003”, an event sponsored by the Department of Public Information (DPI).
Jonathan B. Majiyagbe, President, Rotary International, as well as various other Rotary International representatives, will address the group after being welcomed by Ramu Damodaran, Chief, Civil Society Service, DPI. Edwin Judd, Director of Program Division, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF); Dr. Desmond Johns, Director, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS); Dr. Isabelle de Zoysa, Dept. of HIV/AIDS, the World Health Organization; Vanessa Tobin, Chief, Water and Environmental Section, UNICEF; Jones Kyazze, Director, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), New York Office; and Richard Snyder, Chief, Executive Board and External Relations Branch, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), will participate in the various panel discussions. The day will conclude with an interactive dialogue during which the attendees will have the opportunity to direct their questions to Rotary leaders.
