MEMBERS OF ECOSOC NEGOTIATING COMMITTEE APPOINTED; WILL MEET 26 MARCH
TO CONSIDER AGREEMENT BETWEEN UN, WORLD TOURISM ORGANIZATION
In a brief meeting this morning, the Economic and Social Council took note of a letter from its President, Gert Rosenthal (Guatemala), containing a list of countries appointed as members of the Committee on Negotiations with Intergovernmental Agencies.
In its resolution 2002/24 on arrangements for the negotiation of an agreement between the United Nations and the World Tourism Organization, the Council had authorized its President to appoint the members of the Committee. The Council took note of the President’s letter, contained in document E/2003/12, as orally revised.
As a result, the following countries are appointed to the Committee: Andorra, Argentina, Egypt, France, India, Italy, Jamaica, Nepal, Pakistan, Peru, Romania, Russian Federation, Ukraine, Chile, Ethiopia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa. In addition, Spain, Gambia, Indonesia, Mexico and Morocco will participate as observers.
The Committee will begin its work on Wednesday, 26 March, when it will open the session, elect its chairman, deal with organizational matters and then proceed to the consideration of the draft relationship agreement between the
United Nations and the World Tourism Organization.* *** *
