Biographical Note
NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF SAINT LUCIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Anthony Bryan Severin, the new Permanent Representative of Saint Lucia to the United Nations, today presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
Prior to taking up his post, Mr. Severin held the rank of Ambassador in the office of his country’s Prime Minister for two years, following his service there as Cabinet and Permanent Secretary from 1994 to 2001. He served as Permanent Secretary in Saint Lucia’s Trade, Industry and Tourism Ministries from 1989 to 1992, also serving as the Secretary within the Ministries concerned with planning, personnel, community development and social affairs (1988-1989).
He served as Economist (1981-1984) and then as Chief Economist (1984-1987) with those Ministries after holding a succession of positions in the Ministry of Education and Culture (1980-1981) and the Local Development Fund (1979-1980), a participation project involving Barbados, the University of the West Indies (1978-1979) and Saint Lucia’s Ministry of Education and Culture
(1974-1975).
Throughout those appointments, Mr. Severin represented his country both regionally and internationally in negotiations and conferences in such fields as development planning, finance, trade policy and tourism promotion. He is a founding member of Saint Lucia’s Folk Research Centre and a supporter of its performing and literary arts.
Mr. Severin was educated at St. Mary’s College in Saint Lucia, the University of the West Indies and the University of Bradford, United Kingdom.
Born on 6 August 1955, he is married with three children.
