Biographical Note


ENRIQUE LOEDEL OF URUGUAY FOURTH COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN


Enrique Loedel, Minister Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Uruguay to the United Nations, was elected Chairman of the Fourth Committee (Special Political and Decolonization) on 6 June this year.


Mr. Loedel has been Minister Counsellor since July 2000.  A career diplomat, he has held diplomatic posts in Austria, Turkey and Germany.  While at the headquarters of Uruguay’s Foreign Ministry, he served in the Protocol Department, the Division of Foreign Policy and in the Cabinet of the current Foreign Minister. 


A graduate of the Diplomatic Academy of Uruguay, Mr. Loedel also studied in the United Kingdom and France.  The new Fourth Committee Chairman is fluent in English, French and German, as well as Spanish.


Mr. Loedel was born on 9 December 1960 in Montevideo, Uruguay.
