Biographical Note

NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF EQUATORIAL GUINEA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Lino Sima Ekua Avomo, the new Permanent Representative of Equatorial Guinea to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Sima Ekua Avomo served as Minister of State for International Cooperation and Francophone Affairs from 2001-2003.  He was Director General of International Cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Francophone Affairs from 2000-2001.

In the period from 1990 to 2000, Mr. Sima Ekua Avomo was Ambassador to France with jurisdiction in the United Kingdom, Portugal and Switzerland, and representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva.  He was a member of his country’s delegation to the fortieth session of the United Nations General Assembly.

From 1984 to 1990, he was First Secretary in the Embassy of Equatorial Guinea in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as well as representative to the Organization of African Unity.  He has also served as Second Secretary in his country’s Embassy in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (1982-1984), and as Third Secretary in the Embassy of Equatorial Guinea in Cameroon (1980-1981).

Mr. Sima Ekua Avomo attended the Diplomatic School of Madrid (Spain) from 1976 to 1979 and the Carlos Lwanga National Institute of Secondary Education in Bata (Equatorial Guinea) from 1971 to 1976.

Married with several children, Mr. Sima Ekua Avomo was born in Mongomo on 4 April 1957.
