NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MONGOLIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Baatar Choisuren, the new Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Choisuren served as Director of the Policy Planning, Monitoring and Information Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2001. Between 1997 and 2001, he served as Adviser to Gobi Corporation, later as Managing Director of Gobi USA. From 1996 to 1997, he was Secretary of the National Security Council of Mongolia. Between 1995 and 1996, he served as his country’s Deputy Foreign Minister, prior to which he was Ambassador to the United Kingdom from 1991 to 1995.
Mr. Choisuren has wide experience in international relations extending back to 1975 when he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia. He has held numerous positions both in Government and the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party during that time. He has also served in Japan and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
Born in 1950, in Arkhangai province of Mongolia, Mr. Choisuren graduated from the Moscow Institute of International Relations in 1975. He also studied at the Mongolian State University from 1968 to 1970.
