NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BAHRAIN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Tawfeeq Ahmed Khalil Almansoor, the new Permanent Representative of Bahrain to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Almansoor was Ambassador of Bahrain to the Russian Federation since September 2001. Between August 1999 and 2001 he was the Deputy Chief of Bahrain’s Embassy in Cairo. Before that, he served as First Secretary in his country’s Mission to the United Nations (1995-1999) and Washington, D.C. (1990-1994).
Mr. Almansoor began his diplomatic service when he joined Bahrain’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs in June 1981, where he served in the Legal Directorate until 1990. He has represented Bahrain at the United Nations in various capacities, including in the Sixth Committee (Legal) of the General Assembly on four occasions, the General Assembly itself on three occasions (1997-1999) and the Security Council (1998-1999). Between 1999 and 2001 he also represented his country at the meeting of the Arab League.
The new envoy received his master’s degree in international relations from St. John’s University, New York (1999), a diploma in international law from the Academy of International Law in The Hague (1988), and a Bachelor of Law from Cairo University (1980).
Married with three daughters, Mr. Almansoor was born 14 November 1957.
