SECRETARY-GENERAL DEEPLY SADDENED AT LOSS OF LIFE FROM AFGHAN EARTHQUAKE
The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:
The Secretary-General is deeply saddened by the loss of life as a result of a strong earthquake and severe landslides, which struck Afghanistan on Sunday,
3 March. This is the newest in a series of devastating natural disasters to befall the long-suffering Afghan people, as they struggle to piece back their country and restart their shattered lives.
The Secretary-General extends his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and to the Interim Authority of the country.
