SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS AMINATA S. DJERMAKOYE AS CHIEF OF PROTOCOL


Aminata S. Djermakoye, formerly Chef de Cabinet in the United Nations Office at Geneva, took up her appointment today, 1 November, as Chief of Protocol at United Nations Headquarters.


Since June 1993, Ms. Djermakoye had headed the Office of the Director-General in Geneva, with particular responsibility for ensuring the coherence and effectiveness of the Director-General’s programme of work, providing policy advice, assisting two executive heads of the United Nations Office at Geneva in fulfilling their mandates as Director-General and Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament.


Prior to that assignment, she served as Chief, External Relations and  Inter-Agency Affairs.  In that capacity, she was in charge of the Geneva Office’s cooperation with intergovernmental organizations, various segments of civil society, specialized agencies and coordination-related activities.


Her United Nations experience began in January 1977, in the Department of Public Information, where the information campaigns she handled included disarmament issues.


Ms. Djermakoye graduated from the University of Paris VIII in 1973.  She holds a Licence de lettres modernes and post-graduate degrees in human resources management and marketing.  She is fluent in English and French.


A national of the Niger, she war born on 6 March 1950 in Dakar.  She is married and the mother of a grown-up daughter.
