MAJOR GENERAL PATRICK CAMMAERT NAMED NEW UNITED NATIONS MILITARY ADVISER


Secretary-General Kofi Annan has announced the appointment of Major General Patrick Cammaert of the Netherlands as the new Military Adviser in the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations.


Currently the Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE), Major General Cammaert has served previously as Commander of the Multinational United Nations Stand-by Forces High Readiness Brigade (SHIRBRIG).


He also served as Battalion Commander in the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) and Assistant Chief of Staff of the Multinational Brigade of the Rapid Reaction Forces of the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR).


Major General Cammaert will succeed Major General Tim Ford of Australia in November.
