1267 COMMITTEE APPROVES NEW GUIDELINES

NEW YORK, 15 November (UN Department of Political Affairs) -- On 8 November 2002, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1267 (1999) approved the new guidelines for the conduct of its work.  The new guidelines are based on Security Council resolution 1390 (2002) and on relevant provisions of resolutions 1267 (1999) and 1333 (2000).

The guidelines, in addition to usual procedural issues, incorporate a mechanism for listing and de-listing of individuals and entities to be placed on or removed from the list referred to in paragraph 2 of resolution 1390 (2002). Furthermore, the new guidelines stipulate that the 1267 Committee will examine the reports of Member States on meeting their obligations vis-à-vis the above resolutions.

The new guidelines will replace the previous guidelines issued on 1 February 2000.  The Committee will expeditiously forward the new guidelines to all Member States and relevant international organizations.  The guidelines are available on the Committee’s Web page:  http://www.un.org/Docs/sc/committees/1267Template.htm.
