PRESS STATEMENT ON COUNCIL PROGRAMME OF WORK FOR OCTOBER

BY PRESIDENT OF SECURITY COUNCIL

Following is yesterday’s press statement on the Security Council’s programme of work for October by Council President Martin Belinga-Eboutou (Cameroon):

The members of the Security Council reviewed their programme of work for the month of October.

The programme will essentially be centred around traditional issues -– the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi, Angola, Liberia, Afghanistan, the Middle East, and the renewal of United Nations missions.

However, the Council has also included major thematic issues on its monthly agenda, such as the fight against terrorism (with the Counter-Terrorism Committee reporting on its work during the year since its creation); small arms; women’s role in peace-building; and United Nations system support for Central Africa in conflict-prevention and management.

Council members further declared their readiness to address the Iraq question should the need arise.
