SECURITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE INFORMS OF SUSPENSION
OF TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS ON UNITA
The Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 864 (1993) concerning the situation in Angola wishes to inform that the Security Council decided on 17 May 2002 by its resolution 1412 (2002) to suspend the travel restrictions imposed in paragraphs 4 (a) and (b) of resolution 1127 (1997) on UNITA senior officials and adult members of their immediate families, as designated by the 864 Committee* for a period of 90 days commencing on 17 May 2002. States are reminded that all other measures contained in resolutions 864 (1993), 1127 (1997) and 1173 (1998) remain in force.
By suspending the above travel restrictions, the Security Council recognized, in particular, the need for the facilitation of travel by UNITA members for the peace process and national reconciliation to advance. Prior to the end of the suspension period, the Security Council will decide whether to extend the suspension of the measures referred to above, taking into account all available information on the continuing progress of the process of national reconciliation in Angola.
