PRESS STATEMENT ON LIBERIA BY PRESIDENT OF SECURITY COUNCIL
Following is today's press statement on Liberia by the President of the Security Council, Sergey Lavrov (Russian Federation):
Members of the Council received a briefing by the Chairman of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1343 (2001) concerning Liberia, on the presentation to the Committee by the Panel of Experts appointed pursuant to resolution 1395 (2002), with regard to the recommendation contained in the Panel's supplementary report (issued as document S/2002/470 dated 19 April).
Members of the Council took note of the Committee's intention to have further discussions on the Panel’s recommendations with regard to Liberia’s compliance with paragraph 2 and any violations of paragraphs 5 to 7 of
resolution 1343 (2001), as contained in both the Panel’s original report (issued as S/2001/1015) and their supplementary report.
Members of the Council also noted that the Chairman of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1343 (2001) concerning Liberia will give another briefing to the Council on the outcome of the Committee’s discussions at the next six-monthly review by the Council on the measures imposed by paragraphs 5 to 7 of resolution 1343 (2001), which is scheduled to take place on or before 6 May 2002.
