SPIDERMAN INSPIRES KIDS TO 'BE A HERO: TRICK-OR-TREAT FOR UNICEF'
Halloween Event at United Nations Headquarters
To Feature Spiderman Appearance and Premiere Screening
A Halloween party for children of United Nations delegates and staff will be held on 31 October at 5 p.m. on the Visitors’ Plaza to highlight the “Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF” fundraising campaign.
There will be a special appearance by Spiderman, who will appear above the crowd in a burst of pyrotechnics and rappel down to the Plaza on his silver web. He will then present UNICEF with thousands of coins to kick off the evening’s donations, encouraging everyone to “Be a Hero: Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF”. The celebration will feature Spiderman-themed games, face painting, activities and music.
Following the party, at 6:15 p.m., there will be a premiere screening of the DVD/VHS version of Spiderman, which is scheduled for release the following day, in Conference Room 4.
The event is co-sponsored by UNICEF, the United States Fund for UNICEF, the United Nations Department of Public Information and Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment.
The Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF tradition began in 1950 in Philadelphia, where a youth group collected $17 in decorated milk cartons on Halloween to help children overseas. Since then, American children have raised more than
$115 million under the programme to help build a better future for young people worldwide.
“The Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign makes Halloween both enjoyable and rewarding for millions of children nationwide, and we are overjoyed to bring celebration and excitement to the children of New York, alongside Spiderman, the biggest superhero of them all”, said Charles J. Lyons, President, United States Fund for UNICEF.
