UN UNIVERSITY TO LAUNCH BOOK ON ‘GOVERNING GLOBALIZATION’ ON 21 OCTOBER

The United Nations University is organizing a book launch in New York on Monday, 21 October, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Dag Hammarskjöld Library Auditorium in the United Nations Secretariat. 

The book, entitled “Governing Globalization.  Issues and Institutions”, was edited and co-authored by Professor Deepak Nayyar, Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi.  It is the outcome of a research project carried out by the World Institute for Development Economics Research, a Research and Training Centre of the United Nations University (UNU/WIDER), in cooperation with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs. 

Professor Nayyar will be the main presenter.  Professor Joseph Stiglitz of Columbia University who is a contributor to the volume will also speak on the occasion.  The session will be chaired by Nitin Desai, Under-Secretary-General, United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs. 

The book is among the first to examine, in depth, the governance needs of the world economy and polity.  It evaluates the experience of institutions with a focus on the United Nations, International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the World Trade Organization, to sketch contours of reform and change necessary in the existing system.  It also analyses issues of emerging significance, such as global macroeconomic management, transnational corporations, international capital movements, and cross border movement of people.
