NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL, COLLEGE MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCES
TO MEET AT HEADQUARTERS, BEGINNING 26 MARCH
This week, the United Nations will host two Model United Nations Conferences, the National High School Model United Nations Conference (NHSMUN) and the National (collegiate) Model United Nations Conference (NMUN).
NMUN will hold its opening session in the General Assembly Hall on Tuesday, 26 March at 5 p.m. NHSMUN will hold its opening session in the General Assembly Hall on Wednesday, 27 March at 4 p.m. Shashi Tharoor, Interim Head of the Department of Public Information, will deliver the keynote address for both opening sessions. The two conferences will then hold their final plenary sessions and closing sessions in various United Nations conference rooms and in the General Assembly Hall throughout the day on Saturday, 30 March.
In a rare occurrence, the two conferences are taking place during the same week, bringing a total of over 4,300 high school and college students from across the United States and from several other countries to United Nations Headquarters. Through simulations of the United Nations major committees and by taking on the role of delegates to the United Nations, students gain an invaluable learning experience -- an experience that broadens their understanding of global issues and their appreciation of the role of the United Nations.
