SIX STATES, HOLY SEE PLEDGE CONTRIBUTIONS TO WORLD FOOD PROGRAMME
Six Member States and an observer mission pledged contributions this morning at the annual United Nations/Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Pledging Conference for the World Food Programme (WFP).
Jean-Jacques Graisse, Deputy Executive Director of the WFP, thanked all delegations for their pledges, saying the Programme had been encouraged in the last few months by the unexpected and significant contributions, such as those from India and South Africa.
Victor Manuel Lagos Pizzati (El Salvador) was elected President of the Conference.
Pledges were made this morning by the representatives of El Salvador, Holy See, Djibouti, Algeria, Bhutan, India and Nicaragua.
The representative of the Russian Federation also spoke.
