OFFICE OF HIGH REPRESENTATIVE FOR LEAST DEVELOPED COUNTRIES
LAUNCHES NEW WEB SITE
Anwarul Chowdhury, Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (OHRLLS) this morning, jointly with Shashi Tharoor, Under-Secretary-General, Department of Public Information, launched the OHRLLS Web site at United Nations Headquarters.
The Web site contains a variety of information regarding the Office, and the three vulnerable groups of countries concerned: Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
The main OHRLLS home site contains information about the Office, the High Representative and his statements, as well as United Nations system organizations’ contributions for the implementation of the Brussels Programme of Action. Upcoming LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS events are also regularly updated.
The three sub-sites for LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS provide information regarding: country profiles, United Nations resolutions and reports, focal points within the United Nations system organizations and missions. Statistics regarding these countries are also compiled, such as data on HIV/AIDS, the status of the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Debt Initiative, and countries’ Human Development Index rankings. Another sub-site on the International Ministerial Conference on Transit Transport Cooperation will be added upon agreement on its date and venue.
This is the first comprehensive Web site prepared regarding these groups of countries which the Millennium Development Goals specifically addressed, calling for global partnership to address their specific needs. The information provided in the site would be beneficial to all stakeholders regarding the economic and social development of these countries.
The Web site address is: http://www.un.org/special-rep/ohrlls
