MARCO ANTONIO SUAZO FERNANDEZ OF HONDURAS: CHAIRMAN OF SECOND COMMITTEE
Marco Antonio Suazo Fernandez was elected Chairman of the Second Committee (Economic and Financial) of the General Assembly on 17 July.
Mr. Fernandez is the Chargé d'affaires Ad Interim of the Permanent Mission of Honduras to the United Nations and before that was that country's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
From 1998 to 2001, Mr. Fernandez was adviser in charge of capacity- building programmes for Latin America and The Caribbean in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs. He was Minister Counsellor at his country's Permanent Mission to the United Nations from 1995 to 1998, and Counsellor from 1991 to 1994.
From 1988 to 1990, Mr. Fernandez was First Secretary of the Embassy of Honduras in Managua, Nicaragua. Before that, from 1986 on, he was Vice-Director of Multilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served as Adviser for Local Governments within the Ministry of the Interior from 1977 to 1979.
Mr. Fernandez graduated with a degree in social science and jurisprudence at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Honduras, and completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Florence, Italy, in international relations.
Mr. Fernandez was born in Santa Barbara, Honduras, on 3 April 1956.
