Biographical Note


NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF EL SALVADOR PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Victor Manuel Lagos Pizzati, the new Permanent Representative of El Salvador to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to Secretary-General

Kofi Annan.


From 1997 until his current appointment, Mr. Lagos Pizzati was the Permanent Representative of El Salvador to the United Nations Office in Geneva, the World Trade Organization and other international bodies based in Geneva.  Mr. Lagos Pizzati was also the non-resident Permanent Representative of El Salvador to the United Nations in Vienna.


Between 1994 and 1997, Mr. Lagos Pizzati was the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of El Salvador, and between 1992 and 1994, he worked as an international affairs adviser with the National Secretariat for the Family of the Office of the President of the Republic.  Among other positions, Mr. Lagos Pizzati served as Secretary–General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1991-1992, and worked as a legal adviser for the Salvadoran Coffee Council from 1989-1991.  He served as legal adviser with the Ministry of Foreign Trade from 1983-1987.


Mr. Lagos Pizzati has a master’s degree from Georgetown University, where he specialized in international trade and Latin American studies.  He graduated with honors from the Landegger Program in International Business Diplomacy.  Mr. Lagos Pizzati also has a first degree in legal sciences from the José Matías Delgado University in El Salvador.


Mr. Lagos Pizzati is married and has two children.
