Biographical Note
NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF PAKISTAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Munir Akram, the new Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
Prior to his appointment, he served as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations Office at Geneva since March 1995. Since joining the foreign service in 1967, he has held numerous diplomatic assignments in Pakistan’s missions in New York (1969-1973), Geneva (1979-1982), Tokyo (1982-1985) and Brussels (1988-1992).
Mr. Akram served as Officer on Special Duty, Section Officer, Director, Director General and Additional Secretary in the headquarters of Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 1968 and 1995. He holds Master of Arts and Law degrees.
Born in February 1945, Mr. Akram is married.
