NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF HAITI PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Jean C. Alexandre, the new Permanent Representative of Haiti to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
Before his current appointment, Dr. Alexandre was a practising physician and surgeon in Illinois, United States, since 1974. From 2000 until his appointment, he was Director of Residency Programmes, Family Practices and Internal Medicine, at Westlake Hospital, Melrose Park, Illinois.
From 1997, he was a consultant at Edgewater Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, and has since 1992 served as Chief Executive Officer at the Center for Women, Melrose Park, Illinois. Dr. Alexandre has also been a consultant at the Water Tower Surgical Center in Chicago and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Westlake Community Hospital, since 1990.
Between 1984 and 1985, he was Medical Director of Westlake Community Hospital’s Prenatal Clinic, and from 1980 to 1990 served as Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Services at Madden Mental Health Center in Maywood, Illinois.
He was Chief of Surgery for Northlake Community Hospital, Northlake, Illinois, and has since 1978 served as Medical Director, ALMA Comprehensive Medical Center, Maywood, in the same state.
He studied medicine at the State College of Haiti in 1967 and is a member of the American Medical Association and the Association of Haitian Physicians Abroad, among others.
Born on 6 June 1942 in Port-au-Prince in Haiti, Dr. Alexandre is married and has three children.
