UN UNIVERSITY TO HOST SEMINAR ON MANAGEMENT OF PEACE PROCESS ON 13 FEBRUARY

The United Nations University will host a seminar on "Coming out of Violence -- The Management of Peace Processes".  The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday,

13 February from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will take place in Conference Room "E" in the Secretariat Building.

The purpose of the seminar is to disseminate and discuss the findings of a comparative international study of recent peace processes in Northern Ireland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Israel and Palestine, and the Basque country.  The study focuses on the dynamics of negotiations and charts them through the process of getting into talks, during the negotiations themselves and into post-settlement implementation.  The authors set to identify those factors that facilitate or block political movement and associated peace processes.  The findings are being published by MacMillan as a series of six books.

Speakers include Professor John Darby (Senior Fellow, INCORE and Visiting Professor, Notre Dame University), and Dr. Roger Mac Ginty (Lecturer, Post Conflict Reconstruction Unit, York University).  Permanent missions, United Nations staff, the media and representatives from non-governmental organizations are invited.
