SECRETARY-GENERAL STATES UN READY TO ASSIST IN RELIEF, REHABILITATION
FOLLOWING FLASH FLOODS IN IRAN
Following is the text of statement issued today by the Office of the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:
The Secretary-General is deeply saddened to learn of the loss of life and devastation caused by flash floods in north-eastern Iran. He extends his deepest condolences to the people and Government of Iran, and assures them that the United Nations stands ready to assist in the relief and rehabilitation of the affected areas.
