NEW UN YOUTH LOGO
A new youth logo has been designed by the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI). The logo uses two simple pen strokes to describe the energy and enthusiasm of youth. Dark blue and white are the colours of the logo. Its creator is Susan Reynolds of DPI’s Design Section.
The logo will be used in conjunction with upcoming youth-related events, including the fourth session of the World Youth Forum of the United Nations System and the observance of International Youth Day on 12 August. The Forum, a global meeting of youth delegates from around the world with United Nations representatives, will be convened in Dakar, Senegal from 6 to 10 August under the theme “Empowering Youth for Action".
Young women and men are a major force in the contemporary world. The need to empower young people was emphasized by the United Nations General Assembly when it adopted the World Youth Programme of Action to the Year 2000 and Beyond on the tenth anniversary of International Youth Year in 1995. That landmark document seeks to make governments more responsive to the aspirations of youth for a better world, as well as to the demands of youth to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem.
