PRESS KIT RELEASED FOR CONFERENCE ON FACILITATING ENTRY INTO FORCE
OF COMPREHENSIVE NUCLEAR-TEST-BAN TREATY (CTBT)

The press kit for the forthcoming Conference on Facilitating the Entry into Force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) is being made available to the press today. The kit is being released simultaneously in Vienna and New York, and contains ten inserts together with background material. The inserts cover the provisional agenda of the Conference, its objective, a summary of the 1999 Conference, the main provisions of the Treaty and the status of signatures and ratifications.
The press kit also describes the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization and the global verification regime and its currents status, and outlines the benefits of membership available to States Signatory. It is available in English, French and Spanish.
The 2001 Conference on Facilitating the Entry into Force of the CTBT, convened under Article XIV of the Treaty, provides States with an opportunity to review progress and to consider ways by which entry into force may be advanced. Participants will gather in New York from 25 to 27 September 2001 to consider and agree on measures to accelerate the ratification process.
