SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON CHARTER TO CONSIDER MAINTENANCE OF PEACE, DISPUTE SETTLEMENT
AND COMMITTEE WORKING METHODS DURING CURRENT SESSION
The Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations and on the Strengthening of the Role of the Organization this afternoon adopted its programme of work for its 2001 session, which runs from 2 to 12 April. The Special Committee was established in 1974 by the General Assembly to examine in detail proposals regarding the Charter and strengthening of the role of the United Nations in maintaining peace and security, furthering cooperation among nations and promoting the rule of international law in relations among States.
The Special Committee, according to the work programme, will consider maintenance of international peace and security, peaceful settlements of disputes, ways and means of improving its working methods, and the work of the Trusteeship Council. The Working Group of the Special Committee will consider proposals and working papers on those issues contained in its report of 1998 (document A/53/33).
The Special Committee will meet again at a date to be announced in the Journal.
