UNITED STATES EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES TO FAMILIES OF AFGHAN PERSONNEL

KILLED IN OPERATIONS AGAINST KABUL

CORRECTION

The last paragraph of page 10 of Press Release GA/L/3183 of 10 October (summary of statement by GAILE ANN RAMOUTAR of Trinidad and Tobago) should be amended to read:

Trinidad and Tobago appreciated and valued the work of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in conflict areas.  NGOs often operated in extremely difficult situations.  She welcomed the Secretary-General’s interest to extend legal protection to humanitarian personnel.  Legal protection should be extended to cover them under a separate legal instrument.  There must be a contractual link between them and the United Nations.  Trinidad and Tobago would support a separate legal regime for humanitarian workers.
