FIFTH COMMITTEE TO CONTINUE INFORMAL DISCUSSION OF 2002-2003 BUDGET,

STAFF PENSIONS, HONORARIA, ECOSOC AND DISARMAMENT-RELATED MATTERS

Next Formal Meeting To Be Held Friday, 7 December

The Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary) this morning held a brief meeting to decide on a number of organizational questions in order to ensure smooth conduct of its business at the end of the session.

In accordance with the revised programme of work, informal consultations on the statements on programme budget implications (PBIs) of drafts before the Assembly, which have been presented to the Committee, as well as those previously scheduled for Friday morning, will take place in the afternoon of Friday,

7 December.  Informal consultations on the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund, the subvention request by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) and the revised estimates concerning decisions of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) will remain on the agenda for this afternoon, in addition to the question of honoraria payable to members of various United Nations bodies.

Following the adjournment of this morning’s formal meeting, the Committee resumed its consideration of the draft resolution on the proposed programme budget for the biennium 2002-2003 -– the main issue of the current session.

The Committee will hold its next formal meeting at 10 a.m. Friday,

7 December, to begin its consideration of the financing of International Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, as well as the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE).  It will also take up programme budget implications of several drafts before the Assembly.
