SEMINAR ON ‘THE GOVERNANCE OF GLOBALIZATION’ TO BE HELD AT HEADQUARTERS, 2 MAY


NEW YORK, 18 April (UNU) -- The United Nations University (UNU) and the Department of Economic and Social Affairs will host a seminar on “The Governance of Globalization” on Wednesday, 2 May, from 1:15 to 2:45 p.m. in the Dag Hammarskjöld Library Auditorium.


The purpose of the seminar is to provide a forum for the dissemination and discussion of the findings of a study prepared by the United Nations University’s World Institute for Development Economics Research, with support from the United Nations Division for Social Policy and Development, Department of Economic and Social Affairs.  In order to cope with the complexities of macroeconomic management in a globalizing world economy and to promote international cooperation for development, the study makes a number of recommendations, including the establishment of new institutional arrangements and measures to enhance the effectiveness of the Bretton Woods institutions and the World Trade Organizations.


Speakers will include the coordinator of the project, Deepak Nayyar, Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University; José Antonio Ocampo, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC); and Professor Richard Falk of Princeton University.


Permanent missions, United Nations staff, the media and representatives from non-governmental organizations are invited to attend.
