NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF COTE D'IVOIRE PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

The new Permanent Representative of Côte d'Ivoire to the United Nations, Djessan Philippe Djangone-Bi, presented his credentials this afternoon to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
Prior to his current appointment, Ambassador Djangone-Bi served from 2000 to 2001 as Head of the International Cooperation Division in his country's Ministry for Higher Education and Scientific Research. He is also a senior lecturer in the Department of English, University of Cocody, Abidjan. From 1980 to 1982 he was Director of the English Department at the National University of Côte d'Ivoire. From 1979 to 1982, he was a second assistant to the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the National University of Côte d'Ivoire.
Mr. Djangone-Bi holds a doctorate in English Studies from the new University of the Sorbonne in Paris. He holds a master's degree in English and a diploma in Modern Literature from the same university, as well as a master's in English from the University of Paris VII. He also holds diplomas from Brandeis University and the University of Abidjan.
Mr. Djangone-Bi was born on 1 January 1946. He is married, with two children.
