Biographical Note


NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ROMANIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Alexandru A. Niculescu, the new Permanent Representative of Romania to the United Nations, presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan today.


Prior to his new appointment, Mr. Niculescu had served as Romania's Deputy Permanent Representative since 1999.  Between 1995 and 1998, he was Director of the Division for the United Nations and Specialized Institutions in his country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


Mr. Niculescu was previously Romania's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva between 1991 and 1995, and Chargé d'affaires from 1990 to 1991.  He was also Second Secretary at his country's Embassy in Beijing (1973 to 1978).


A graduate of the Polytechnical Institute in Bucharest, where he specialized in television, Mr. Niculescu also did his postgraduate studies in international relations in the Romanian capital, at the University of Law.


He is married and has three children.
